Modul / Module

De senaste veckorna har arbetet med CoScene stannat upp då vi förlorat en familjemedlem. Arbetet går fortfarande långsamt men vi försöker komma igång med arbetet igen och hitta den positiva energin och glädjen att jobba med projektet.

I lördags höll vi ett möte via Skype med Henrik Øvad, erfaren multimedia programör och MAX expert, som kommer att vara involverad i utvecklingen av CoScene. Henrik är verksam i Århus, Danmark, och har bl.a. arbetet med projekt för teater och som undervisare. I det öppna kontorslandskap där han arbetar finns även en massa personer med erfarenhet och kunskap i programmering och andra färdigheter inom teknik som kan vara användbara. Ett inspirerande möte!

Efter mötet har arbetet med att visualisera och få tankarna om CoScenes modul-baserade struktur dokumenterade och satt ord (och bild) på startat. Samtidigt har det gjorts research kring styrning av ljus. Och nätverkande.

Bit för bit, steg för steg kommer vi närmare att ha alla delar för konstruktion på plats.

During the past weeks the work with CoScene came to a standstill due to the loss of a family-member. We are still going slowly but trying to get the work started again and regain the positive energy and joy working with the project.

On Saturday we had a Skype-meeting with Henrik Øvad, an experienced multimedia programmer MAX

expert who will be involved in development of CoScene. Henrik is situated in Aarhus, Denmark, and has, among other things worked with projects for theatre and as an educator. In the open-plan office where he works are a bunch of people who are great at programming and other technical skills that will come handy. An inspiring meeting!

After the meeting the work with visualizing and get the ideas of the module-based structure of CoScene documented and put into words (and visuals) have started. At the same time research regarding controlling light is made. And networking.

Brick by brick, step by step we are getting closer to having all pieces for construction in place.

Vad är CoScene? / What is CoScene?

I videon, CoScene Livingroom Series Part 1a, som vi presenterade härom veckan kan du se hur rörelse kontrollerar några förprogrammerade ljud (instrument). Med rörelse är det möjligt att höja och sänka volymen, aktivera och avaktivera olika ljud och ändra tonalitet. En mycket grundläggande start som visar grundidén. Detta är möjligt den som har en 3-D sensor, kunskaper i programmering och ett program som fungerar med 3-D sensorn och ett musikprogram. Med några fler modifieringar är det även möjligt att lägga till röststyrning.

Det CoScene är och kommer att bli är ett instrument och en lösning för scenframträdanden som kombinerar olika sätt att interagera, förpackat på ett intuitivt sätt och med gränslösa möjligheter för utveckling. Föreställ dig Lego, med start satsen får du ett antal klossar som du kan kombinera på olika sätt. Om du är en erfaren Lego-byggare vill du kanske lägga till fler klossar och kanske även några snygga tema klossar för att kunna skapa den avancerade konstruktion du vill. På samma sätt ska CoScene vara enkelt att komma igång med för nybörjaren och tillräckligt utmanande för den avancerade konstnären.

In the video, CoScene Livingroom Series Part 1a, that we presented the other week you can see how movement controls a couple pre-programmed sounds (instruments). With movement it is possible to rise and lower the volume, activate and de-activate different sounds and change tonality. A very basic start that shows how we visualize the fundament. This is possible to create for anyone with a 3-D sensor, programming skills and a program that works together with the 3-D sensor and a music program. It is also, with more modifications possible to add voice-control.

What CoScene is and will be is an instrument and a solution for stage performances that combines different ways of interacting, packaged in an intuitive way and with limitless possibilities for expansion. Image Lego, with the basic starter kit you get a number of interlocking bricks; you can combine them in different ways. If you are a skilled Lego-builder you might want to add more bricks and maybe even some fancy theme bricks in order to create the advanced piece you want to. In the same way CoScene will be easy to get started with for the beginner and enough challenging for the advanced artist.

Delar, bitar och konstruktion / Bits, pieces and construction

Att skapa ett projekt är frustrerande, stressigt och kul. Dagarna varierar i energi, från att vara på toppen, redo ta över världen till att vara nere i ett hål av tvivel, slita sitt hår och undra varför i hela världen kom jag på den här idéen och hur ska jag nå målet.

Just nu försöker vi få de alla bitar, eller i varje fall en acceptabel del, på plats som vi behöver för att kicka igång alla delar i projektet. Att arbeta med de tekniska delarna, nätverka, leta efter samarbetspartners och påbörja visualisera produktioner och open lab sessioner med CoScene, även om de sistnämnda delarna ligger ett år fram i tiden är ett måste och kräver samtidigt att du håller huvudet kallt och inte tappar fokus på målet.

Ett projekt behöver balans, inte att allt är roligt hela tiden men att det roliga är en gnista som får dig att fortsätta. I går gjorde vi en enkel, kort och okomplicerad video med ett fragment av den output som kommer att vara en del av CoScene – att kontrollera ljud med enkla rörelser. Känns kanon att äntligen kunna visa en glimt av det arbete vi är mitt uppe i.

To create a project from scratch is frustrating, stressful and fun. The days vary in energy from being on top ready to conquer the world to being in the pit almost tearing your hair and wondering why you ever came up with the idea and how on earth are you going to reach your goal.

At present we are trying to find all, or at least a reasonable amount, of the bits and pieces we need to get all parts in the project kicking of. Working with the technical parts of the projects, building connections, looking for co-workers and starting to visualize productions and open lab sessions with CoScene even if the later parts lay a year ahead in time is a must and at the same time it require that you keep your min cool, no over-heating, and not get lost on the path to the goal.

A project needs balance, not that that everything is fun all the time but that the fun is the spark that keeps you going. Yesterday we made a simple, very short and uncomplicated video of a fragment of the output that will be part of CoScene – controlling the sound with simple movements. Feels great to finally be able to present a glimpse of the work we are doing.
