I lördags deltog CoScene vid en pitch-session i Helsingfors, under seminariet Truly Digitals andra dag. Vi fick konstruktiv och bra feedback. En av de saker som expertpanelen undrade över och som de efterlyste var vem är “vi”, vem är CoScene.

Bakom CoScene står Marita Isaksson och Geert Madsen. Marita är den som projektleder, håller koll på trådarna och arbetar med projektet vilket inkluderar att skriva här och på Facebook. Geert agerar bollplank och bistår med tekniskt kunnande.

Vem är vi då? 

Idén till CoScene har vi burit på sedan mitten av 90-talet. Då fanns inte den teknik vi har idag och en stationär Mac kostade två månadslöner. Jag kom i kontakt och arbetade bl.a. med Electronic Café, Virtual Gallery och odlade tankar om att bygga digitala världar som var långt från de skjut-döda-spel som marknaden bestod av till 99 % (ganska likt idag faktiskt). Geert utbildade sig till och arbetade som multimediadesigner och var i full gång med att tillsammans med sitt band, Sund Fornuft, ge ut sin första skiva. I slutet av 90-talet flyttade vi till Sverige och Göteborg. Geert fortsatte med sin musik och utbildade sig till 3-D grafiker medan jag pluggade teoretisk filosofi och bl.a. arbetade med upplevelsebaserat internet som arrangör och projektledare. Av olika anledningar lämnade vi den digitala världen till fördel för icke-virtuella möten och medan vi jobbade med föreningsutveckling, projektarbeten, utbildning och annat så tog den tekniska utvecklingen fart. Idag är den där vi drömde om att den var för snart tjugo år sedan och vi har på olika sätt hittat tillbaka till digitala världar och våra digitala identiteter.

Formellt så är vi både konstnärer, jag inom traditionella konstarter som måleri, skulptur och fotografi och Geert som graffitimålare och musiker. Båda har vi även genom de senaste åren arbetat som grafiker med allt från affischer till skivomslag och logotyper. Min utbildning till projektledare har jag från Kaospiloterna i Danmark, plus kulturvetarexamen och inom kort en master i teoretisk filosofi, båda vid Göteborgs Universitet. Geert är multimediagrafiker från Space Invaders i Danmark, 3-D-grafiker från ITC i Göteborg och självlärd musiker och producent.

Utöver CoScene så skriver jag bloggen Not Just Another Digital Media Blog (som tagit en paus under september), är aktiv i Kontaktnätet – riksorganisation för ideella Kulturföreningar där jag bl.a. arbetat med projektet JOINA kring sociala medier och Öppna Kanalen Göteborg (med en snygg logo signerad av mig och Geert). Geert arbetar med marknadsundersökningar och på sin fritid (då han inte planerar på CoScene) så målar han graffiti och gör musik.

Det var en kort presentation av teamet bakom CoScene i skivande stund. Nya presentationer kommer då teamet utvidgats.

Last Saturday CoScene had he opportunity to give a pitch of the project during Truly Digital in Helsinki, Finland. We received useful feedback. One of the facts the panel of experts wanted to know was who “we” were, who is CoScene.

Time to present us!

The team behind CoScene is Marita Isaksson and Geert Madsen. Marita is the project-manager, the one who keeps track of everything and the one who works with the project, which includes updating this site and our Facebook-page. Geert has the role of sparring partner and assist with his technical knowledge.

Who are we?

The idea for CoScene is one we have had since the mid-nineties. At that time the technical solutions we have today was not available and a normal Macintosh computer ha a price tag of two months salary. During this time I got in contact and worked with i.e. Electronic Café, Virtual Gallery and nourished my dreams of creating virtual worlds far away from those shot-and-kill-games that occupied 99 % of the market (as the almost do today as well). Geert got an education in multimedia-design and was on the way to release his band’s, Sund Fornuft, first record. By the end of the nineties we moved to Sweden and Gothenburg. Geert kept on working with music and studied 3-D-graphics during the same time as I studied philosophy and worked with e.g. experience-based Internet, as a producer and project manager. Different circumstances made us leave the digital world and engaging full-time (more or less) in non-virtual meetings and during the time we worked with NGO’s, organizational development, different projects and education the technical development accelerated.  Today it is were we dreamed it would be almost twenty years ago and we have found our way back to the digital worlds and our digital identities.

We both have our roots in art, mine in traditional arts (painting, sculpture and photography) and Geert as a graffiti-artist and musician. During the past years we both have worked as graphic designers with everything from posters to album covers and logotype-design.

I have an exam as a project manager from the Chaospilots in Denmark, plus an exam in Cultural studies and soon a Master degree in philosophy from the University of Gothenburg. Geert has his exam as multimedia designer from Space Invaders in Denmark, an exam as 3-D-graphics from ITC in Gothenburg and is autodidact musician and producer.

I also write the blog Not Just Another Digital Media Blog (that has had a break during September), I am working with Kontaktnätet – riksorganisation för ideella Kulturföreningar or whom I i.e. have worked with the social media project JOINA and Öppna Kanalen Göteborg (with a nice logo designed by me and Geert). Geert works with market research and during his spare time (when he isn’t planning CoScene) he paints graffiti and makes music.

This was a short presentation of the team behind CoScene and as new team-members join new presentations will be published.
